Peter and Tink

Tink laughed, flying in a little circle and sending pixie dust all around, “Why would I lie when the truth is already so much fun?” She fluttered over to him, grinning and holding back the urge to bop him on the nose. Part of her felt bad for how much she was enjoying his jealousy, but she figured it wasn’t doing too much harm. “No, not yet. I.. I figured I would in a couple days. Are the Lost Boys there right now?”

Peter wafted his hand in the air, clearing the pixie dust from his face, “Tink, stop doing that!” He laughed. “Because you’re incredibly good at lying, and who wouldn’t do what they’re good at,” he raised his eyebrows at his little friend, but she was right in front of him and he went a little cross-eyed. “Why what are you doing? Are you busy with something else?” He said, a little annoyed. “And no, the Lost Boys aren’t there. Neithers Wendy. Suppose you’re pleased about that.” He huffed.

Tinkerbell rolled her eyes, sitting down on the nearest surface and looking up at him. “I thought maybe I’d go visit some other friends. Like Snow White. I haven’t seen her in a while, and she’s great company.” She tried to go on to say how much she had missed him, but the words caught in her throat. All at once, the fairy began to feel her initial excitement at seeing Peter fade, and she remembered why she was upset with him. At the mention of the wench Wendy, she felt her anger building up, threatening to come pouring out.

But Tink simply looked at him with a pleasant smile. “Why would you think that, Peter? I’m perfectly fond of big ugly girls who barge into Neverland.”

Peter bristled a little at the thought that she would rather spend time with other people. “Wendy isn’t ugly,” he snapped a little because it didn’t know what else to say. “And she didn’t barge, I invited her remember? Only you weren’t so welcoming when you tried to shoot her out the sky. And don’t even try to give me that smile.” He rolled his eyes. Although he sounded angry he was really pleased to see her. “If you go away, you have to promise not to go away for long. Come back soon okay?” Tink was his best friend really.

“We have a dragon now…” He remembered and slipped it in slyly. “You sure you don’t want to see it?”

She smiled as he spoke of the leopard. Though Peter’s boasting could at times make her roll her eyes, it was one of those boyish things about him she missed when he wasn’t around. He could be amazing and adventurous and the best of friends, or he could be a complete pain in the ass. But he was Peter.

She had to hold back a smug grin as he asked his question. “Oh, all sorts of people. Princesses and Powhatans, who are sort of like Indians except we shouldn’t call them that, and some grumpy men. ….and a few handsome ones. To name just a few, of course.” She looked at her nails, trying to act casual and hold back the excitement she felt about her travels.

Peter tried not to look impressed by all Tink had done without him. Well, he’d had a perfectly good time without her! “You’re not lying are you Tink?” He continued to try to keep his voice casual. “Handsome men? What do you want to meet them for?” Peter’s face scrunched up a little. “Well, I mean, whatever you want to do Tink. I don’t mind,” he stuck his nose in the air defiantly. It wasn’t to last long though. “Have you been back to the treehouse yet?”

Tinkerbell turned, surprised but happy to see Peter after so long. “Oh,” she smiled and shrugged a little, “Just around. Visiting new places, meeting all sorts of people. I’ve done a bunch of stuff I bet even you haven’t since I’ve been travelling!”

“Travelling…” Peter mused. “That sounds fun. But bet you haven’t defeated a mighty leopard with your bare hands while you’ve been travelling!” He said triumphantly. Then, suddenly curious he asked, with a little tinge of envy, “Who’ve you met?”
